Blog - Best Web Developers in Victoria (2026): The Top 5

A direct ranking of the best web developers for Victoria and Vancouver Island businesses in 2026.

By Ethan Breitkreutz

Best Of

Victoria businesses serve a refined, well-educated customer base. Tourists at the Inner Harbour, retirees in Oak Bay, professionals in Fernwood — they notice when a site feels cheap, and they bounce. That's the wrinkle Victoria introduces compared to other BC markets: performance and taste both matter, and a lot of local template builds fail one or both tests.

Here's my honest top 5.

Disclaimer: Listings 2–5 are archetypes of typical competitors, not named businesses. Categories, not companies. Position 1 is me.

1. Ethan Breitkreutz (EthanBDev)

I'm based in Kelowna and I work remotely with Victoria clients. You get build quality on par with the best Victoria freelancers without the Gastown-adjacent pricing some agencies try to pull. I've been building since high school and I run a modern Next.js stack with proper local SEO and real engineering.

Why I fit Victoria:

  • Same-day response, remote-first. The strait doesn't cost you anything on timelines.
  • Fair pricing. No office on Fort Street, no account team, no agency markup.
  • Modern stack. Next.js, schema, 90+ mobile Lighthouse — which matters a lot in a market where the audience is judging your site's feel.
  • Software, not just marketing sites. Web apps, AI automations, custom tools.

Recent work on my portfolio, and more on working with Island businesses on the Victoria locations page.

2. "Inner Harbour Web Agency" (local agency archetype)

Victoria's full-service shop. Nice office downtown, solid design sensibility, team of five to fifteen.

Pros: Design-forward, process-driven, fine for bigger stakeholder projects.

Cons: Expensive, slow, and often WordPress underneath the pretty front-end. If you need custom software, they'll subcontract it.

3. "Fernwood Freelance" (solo freelancer archetype)

Senior solo developer, probably in Fernwood or James Bay, charges real rates, books months out.

Pros: Excellent quality, direct contact, genuine senior-level work.

Cons: Expensive, booked solid, single-point-of-failure if they take a long weekend.

4. "Island Template Studio" (WordPress/Squarespace mill)

Flat-fee theme reseller. Two-week turnaround, Divi under the hood.

Pros: Cheap and fast.

Cons: In Victoria the audience will notice it's a template. Bounce rates will tell on you.

5. "Global Dev Outsource" (offshore archetype)

The offshore firm in your LinkedIn inbox.

Pros: Cheapest.

Cons: No Island context, weird copy, painful iteration across time zones.

Recent work

Projects that show range applicable to Victoria:

  • Zbsalon — service business marketing site with design sensibility; the kind of polish Victoria audiences expect.
  • Teleta Vox — AI voice-agent SaaS with real engineering.
  • Realtor Coaching App — web app with dashboard and auth.
  • Curbchat — custom chat infrastructure.

All on the portfolio page.

How to pick in Victoria

A quick decision tree:

  • Professional services firm (law, finance, wealth) wanting a brand refresh and a site. The local agency is a fine call.
  • Growing service business that wants to rank, convert, and look sharp. A senior freelancer or me. Skip the agency markup.
  • Tourism, hospitality, seasonal businesses. You need speed-first engineering. Template shops can't deliver it.
  • Anything software — booking systems, member portals, custom apps, AI. You want an engineer.

Most Victoria businesses I talk to fit bucket 2 or 4.

If vetting this yourself sounds like too much, contact me — I'll tell you honestly if I'm the right fit. Victoria is a market where a well-built site compounds — good design, good speed, good SEO, and it keeps paying off year after year. Getting it right the first time is worth being patient about the hire.
