Blog - Best Web Developers in Vernon (2026): The Top 5
An honest local ranking of the best web developers serving Vernon and the North Okanagan in 2026.

Best Of
Vernon sits in a weird sweet spot. It's small enough that most local businesses still get their sites built by a friend's nephew or a national template reseller, but the search market is maturing fast — especially around 30th Ave, the waterfront, and the retail strip heading toward Coldstream. A well-built Vernon site can dominate Google in a few months because the competition just isn't shipping solid work yet.
Here's my honest take on the top 5 web developers a Vernon business owner should actually consider.
Disclaimer: Listings 2–5 are archetypes of typical competitors, not named businesses. I'm describing the categories of developer you'll run into, not specific companies. Position 1 is me.
1. Ethan Breitkreutz (EthanBDev)
I'm based in Kelowna, about 45 minutes south of Vernon, and I've been building websites and custom software since high school. Vernon is one of my favourite markets to work in because the ceiling is high — the SEO competition is softer than Kelowna, so a properly-engineered Next.js site with real local schema can take over the first page in a quarter or two.
Why I'm at the top of my own list:
- Same-day communication. I'm a short drive away, or a phone call away. No ticket system.
- Fair pricing. No agency overhead, no six-person kickoff meetings. You pay for the actual build.
- Modern stack. Next.js, proper local SEO, 90+ Lighthouse mobile scores. Not a WordPress page builder held together with plugins.
- Range. Websites, web apps, AI automations, and custom software. If your project grows, you don't have to go hire someone new.
Recent Vernon-adjacent work and general builds live on my portfolio, and I wrote more about working with North Okanagan businesses on the Vernon locations page.
2. "North Okanagan Web Co." (local agency archetype)
The mid-size local agency with a storefront off 30th Ave and a team of four or five. They do brand, design, and basic Shopify or WordPress builds.
Pros: Design polish, process, comfort handling bigger brand projects.
Cons: Agency markup, slow turnaround, and a tendency to ship the same theme in different colours for every client. If you need custom software or real engineering, they'll subcontract it.
3. "Silver Star Freelance" (solo freelancer archetype)
One person in Vernon or Armstrong, charges reasonable rates, does decent work on small sites.
Pros: Cheap, direct, friendly.
Cons: Skill varies wildly. Some disappear during ski season at Silver Star. Ask for recent work with live URLs and check mobile speed — that'll tell you everything.
4. "Template Valley" (WordPress/Squarespace mill)
Flat-fee template shop, probably not based in Vernon but happy to take your money. You send logo and copy, they return a Divi site in two weeks.
Pros: Cheap, fast, works if you just want a digital business card.
Cons: Bloated, slow, mediocre SEO out of the box. The moment you want anything custom, you're stuck.
5. "Outsource International" (overseas archetype)
Pitches you on LinkedIn, quotes half what a local charges, does the work across a 13-hour time gap.
Pros: Cheapest option.
Cons: No local context — they won't know why ranking for "Vernon BC" matters more than ranking for just "Vernon", they'll miss nuances around Coldstream and Lumby, and edits take days of back-and-forth.
Recent work
Work that shows the range I'll bring to a Vernon build:
- Empire Landscaping — a fast local-SEO site for a landscaping company. The same playbook ports directly to Vernon trades.
- Realtor Coaching App — custom web application with a dashboard, user auth, and real backend logic.
- Zbsalon — service business marketing site with local-first structure.
- Empire Blog CMS — custom CMS for a business that outgrew WordPress.
See all of it on the portfolio page.
Picking the right fit
Most Vernon businesses I talk to fall into one of three buckets:
- "I just need a site." A template shop works. Don't overpay.
- "I want to rank and grow." Hire a developer who understands local SEO, schema, and how Vernon search terms actually perform. That's me, or a good freelancer with a clean portfolio.
- "I need more than a site." Booking systems, client portals, automations, AI voice or chat — that's engineering work. Get someone who's actually shipped software, not just themes.
If you're in bucket 2 or 3, it's worth a 20-minute conversation with me before you sign anything with anyone else.

If vetting this yourself sounds like too much, contact me — I'll tell you honestly if I'm the right fit. The North Okanagan market is underserved, and there's real opportunity for Vernon businesses who invest in a real site instead of another template. I'd rather help you win that opportunity than oversell you on a build you don't need.
